James 1:19-20
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:19-20
I don’t know about you, but my natural tendency is to be slow to hear, swift to speak, and swift to wrath. These verses challenge us to go against the natural tendencies of our flesh.
But there is good reason: the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. We won’t accomplish anything God-glorifying through our anger.
The key to being slow to wrath, James says, is to be slow to speak and quick to hear. This means holding our tongues and waiting until we have heard what our neighbor has to say. This will keep us from impulsivity.
Slow to wrath,
