Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28

This is probably one of the most quoted verses in the Bible. It is a verse that promotes hope and encouragement. It helps reassure people that, in the end, God will finish the work he starts in them. Unfortunately, there are a few caveats that make this verse exclusive. This verse is, after all, not designed to be a promise to just anyone but only those in the family of God. Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble.

In the first part of the verse, we read, “those who love God.” Only those who have become part of God’s family through a spiritual rebirth can enjoy the fruits He has for them. God wants to begin a new work in us and complete it, but that cannot happen until we surrender to Him and deny our flesh. We must begin by entering into His family as one of His children. In the second part of the verse, we see the phrase, “according to His purpose.” This is part of the new life of a Christian. God wants to complete the work He starts in us after we accept the free gift of salvation and then submit to His purpose. It can be frustrating when things don’t go our way, but once we rest in Jesus, we can be assured that they can go His way, which is infinitely better. That’s if we join the family of God and surrender. Only then can He finish what He starts.

God Bless,
