2 Chronicles 29:4-5
Then he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them in the East Square, and said to them: “Hear me, Levites! Now sanctify yourselves, sanctify the house of the Lord God of your fathers, and carry out the rubbish from the holy place.”
2 Chronicles 29:4-5
After King Ahaz died, King Hezekiah became king of Judah. Ahaz had not done what was right in the sight of God and he went so far as to dismantle the articles of the house of God and to permanently closed the temple doors (2 Chronicles 28:24). Things were in such disarray that the holy place was full of rubbish. King Hezekiah recognized that Judah’s turning away from God had invoked God’s wrath and in the first month of his reign, Hezekiah took the lead by commanding the Levites to get right with God, resume their priestly duties, and clean up the house of God.
The Levites heeded Hezekiah’s command and cleansed the temple, removed the debris, and prepared and sanctified the temple articles that King Ahaz sinfully had cast aside. In turn the people brought burnt offerings in abundance, as the nation began worshipping the Lord again.
Through Hezekiah, a single godly man was able to change the direction of the entire nation. Like Judah, our country has strayed from God and many of our leaders at all levels of government are unfaithful. Pray that God soften the hearts of those leaders so that they turn to Him and pray for strength and wisdom for those that follow Him.
Turning home, how are things going there? Have things drifted in your own household? Is there unfaithfulness in the things of God? Be like Hezekiah and take a stand for God, for certainly if one person can be used to right a nation, then one can be used to right a household.
