Acts 2:46-47

Acts 2:46-47

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Acts 2:46-47

It’s easy to be driven by sheer numbers in this world. Speakers will often judge the effectiveness of their presentation by the size of the audience. Even musicians will cancel a concert if the attendance drops below a certain number. But this is not the goal of the evangelist or anyone who seeks to present Jesus to the world. What God asks from us is not to seek the end result, but to simply live and speak in a way that brings glory to Him and allows Him to bring the increase.

What the apostles learned was that being steadfast in their fellowship and doctrine brought joy to the Lord and, as a result, the church grew. Living out obediently is what God desires as well as trusting that He will move the hearts as He desires and sees fit. The end result of a people or a church that is living faithfully and holy before the Lord is a result that humans are not capable of anticipating or achieving. Only God can bring the increase and as we read in Acts 2:47, “The Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” As Paul would write in 1 Corinthians 3:6, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.”

God Bless,
