Genesis 16:68, 10, 13
So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence. Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.” …Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.” …Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”
Genesis 16:68, 10, 13
In the story of Hagar, we encounter a God who sees us in our distress. Just as Hagar called the Lord “El Roi”—the God who sees—we can take comfort knowing that our struggles never escape God’s notice. In your darkest moments, when you feel alone and abandoned, remember that the Lord’s eyes are always upon you. He sees your pain, hears your cries, and is moved with compassion.
There may have been times when you felt unseen or forgotten. How might the knowledge that God always sees you change your perspective on that situation? Knowing that you are truly never alone, take a moment to pray, thanking God for His attentive presence in your life.
