2 Corinthians 4:16-18

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

The world is passing away—it’s literally in a state of decay with no future. Yet how often we sacrifice eternal gain for temporal pleasure! The encouragement of Scripture is this: those who do God’s will abide forever. You’ve been delivered from this present evil age through Christ; don’t fall in love again with what once destroyed you. Being different from the world isn’t easy, but you’re called to be in the world, not of it.

Victory is possible because Christ has already won. You’ll never regret fleeing temptation or saying no to worldly enticements. So, set your mind on things above. Make one decision based on eternal values rather than temporal comfort. Come out and be separate, and experience the peace that surpasses understanding—the peace the world desperately seeks but cannot find apart from Christ.
