Hebrews 6: 11-12

Hebrews 6: 11-12

And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end. That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 6: 11-12

In chapter five, the Hebrews were rebuked for having become “dull of hearing.”  They had been Christians long enough, where if they had been diligent in learning the things of God, they would have been teachers by that point in time.  Verse 10 of chapter six commends the Hebrews for their ministry to each other, and in our passage today encourages them to “show the same diligence” in regard to the word and doctrine and to “not become sluggish.”

Let us commit to be like those to whom Paul initially witnessed in Berea, who were daily searching the scriptures to know the ways and character of God. As Western Christians, we have ready access to the word of God, and this is a privilege that should not be taken lightly – to whom much is given, much is expected.  If you have been a Christian for a fair amount of time, consider how well you know the things and doctrine of God.  Are you at the point where you can now teach and guide a fellow brother or sister who is newer in the faith?  Could you now teach a small group or teach in the convalescent or jail ministry? The sense of Hebrews 5:12 indicates that more of us are gifted to teach than we realize. Lord, may we be diligent to study your word with a mindset to be able to teach others and may You open doors for us to do so.
