James 3:13-16
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.
James 3:13-16
James rarely beats around the bush but instead is usually blunt and in our faces. Our verses this morning exemplify that. He asks if you think you are wise and have a good understanding of things? Well, great, he continues, then we should see your works carried forth in the wisdom of meekness or humility. However, says James, if we find any bitter envy and self-seeking, that would show us that we are really not so wise and understanding. Ouch! That wisdom he says is from the earth, from below and will lead to and cause confusion and every evil.
So saints, let’s take to heart James’ bold warning. Today let us be wise by serving without self, being involved. Let us be others-centered, bring glory to our God, and avoid the confusion and evil that self-serving brings.
Wanting heavenly wisdom to rule my life,
