James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
James 4:13-15
In the world, people make plans and never consider the Lord or His plans for them. But James says here to believers, “Come on now, you who say, I’m going to go here and go there, I’m going to live in this place and do this kind of business and make my living”, as if we know what is around the corner. Now there is nothing wrong with making plans, God actually says you’re a fool if you don’t, but to do so without putting God in that place of final authority in your life is truly foolish.
I have heard it said, “God plans our birth and our death, it’s up to us to follow Him in the day between the two”, and looking to Him for His plans and purposes for our days is probably the wisest plan we can make.
