John 15:4

John 15:4

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”

John 15:4

In this parable, Jesus says, we are the branches and He is the Vine. These verses paint this picture of God the Vinedresser, working among the branches; watering, weeding, and pruning. And in turn the branches bear fruit, glorifying Him.

The branch does not have to do much. It has to abide, or stay connected to the vine. And as long as it is doing that then the vine will provide for all the branches’ needs. Just as Jesus will provide for all our needs, all we have to do is stay close to Him. And in the end we will produce fruit.

There is nothing in these verses about the branch having to do anything. The branch isn’t watering itself, pruning itself, or working hard to produce fruit. Because fruit comes naturally, it comes as a result of the branch being connected to the vine.

Brothers and sisters, abide in Jesus today.

Abiding,

Pastor David Reeves
