Joshua 7:1

But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed things, for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed things; so the anger of the LORD burned against the children of Israel.

Joshua 7:1

Israel had just won a great victory over Jericho. They were commanded by God not to take any spoils of war from the city. But one man, Achan, disobeyed. When Israel entered the next battle at Ai, God was not with them because of Achan. And they lost the battle to the small city of Ai. 

The whole nation suffered because of Achan. One man’s actions had far reaching consequences. Achan’s sin made those around him suffer, including his own family. 

Sin has a frustrating way of creeping up and causing hurt to everyone around us. Especially those closest to us. We need to stay vigilant in all areas of our life. Like Paul says in Ephesians 4:24 “Put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

Today let’s strive for holiness and live for God’s glory.
