Judges 6:12
And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” Judges 6:12
Here we see Gideon’s identity through the eyes of God. It gives us a little insight as to how we should see our identity in Jesus. We see that God saw Gideon not as how Gideon was in that moment, hiding in fear, but rather God saw Gideon as who God was going to make him to be. God calls Gideon a mighty man of valor. But notice before giving Gideon an attribute, God reminds Gideon that the Lord is with him, or in other words Gideon doesn’t get this attribute without being in the presence of the Lord.
The more time we spend in God’s presence in His word, the more reminders we get as to what our identity is in Him. The world bombards us as to what we should strive to be, whereas the Lord reassures us who we are in Him through His word. Through Gideon, we see that God sees us not as our potential or our failures, but He sees us as who He has called us to be. For it is God who works in us and through us giving us our identity based on His character and who He calls us to be.
