Luke 5:8

Luke 5:8

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”

Luke 5:8

At the beginning of Luke 5, Jesus tells Peter to let down his nets to fish. Peter the fisherman explained to Jesus the teacher they’d been at it all night and had come up empty. However, he decided to listen to Jesus and let down his nets. He and his partners caught so many fish they almost sank.

It was at this moment Peter knew He was in the presence of the Lord. He had no other explanation for this miraculous moment. He also realized what a sinner he was and fell to his knees in front of Jesus out of shame.

When we realize how good Jesus is and how wicked we are, we can’t help but fall to our knees in shame. Yet after Peter told the Lord to depart from him, Jesus said, I’m going to make you fishers of men. Isn’t it good Jesus cleans us sinful people up and uses us for His glory?

Use this sinner, Lord!
