Mark 7:15, 20-23
There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man… And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
Mark 7:15, 20-23
Jesus teaches that defilement comes from within our hearts, not from external sources. This sobering truth reveals our deep need for transformation. As you read the list of evils that proceed from the heart, honestly examine your own life. Which of these do you struggle with the most?
Be encouraged that acknowledging our sinfulness is the first step towards healing and change. We can be thankful to God that He sees and understands the depths of our hearts, yet loves us unconditionally. Pray for the Holy Spirit to continue His work of sanctification in your life, purifying your heart and aligning your desires with God’s will. It will bring peace to your soul.
