Matthew 6:25
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
Matthew 6:25
Do you have a tendency to worry? I think we all do. Thankfully, Jesus addresses this dilemma and puts some perspective on it. Unfortunately, worry is one of our favorite pet sins; anxiety, worry, fretting are all vices that have been domesticated by modern Christianity. Of course, we’ve renamed it as: concern, burden, a cross to bear… but the result is the same.
This is a command not a suggestion. Jesus is saying, “Stop the self-tormenting anxiety that corrodes your inner peace; stop being obsessed with fear!” Even in our basic needs for food and clothing we can trust that God can and will provide because our life and our body are precious to Him.
