The prophet Micah had just reminded the people how good the Lord had been to them. The people respond and, almost sarcastically, ask how they can get right with God. They look to external work of sacrifice and ask how much it would take. This verse shows the response of the Lord. He was not interested in their sacrifices or their works; rather He was interested in their hearts.
The same is true today. If you do works like reading your bible, going to church, or pray just to check a box, God is not interested in your works. He is interested in your heart. He wants a relationship with you and for you to walk with Him in humility, to love to show mercy as He does and to live justly. The Lord is after your heart, are you willing to give it to Him?
For the King,
