Proverbs 16:6

Proverbs 16:6

In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

Proverbs 16:6

Watch the news for 10 minutes nowadays and you’ll realize what a wicked world we live in. Sin reigns in the hearts of men and there doesn’t seem to be any hope. Which is why we need the atoning death of our Savior, Jesus. We cannot win against the sin in our own lives on our own, but we have Jesus’ sacrifice to provide for it.

This verse starts with the words “mercy and truth” and only Jesus can bring those two together. His conversation with the woman at the well had mercy for her – “it is right that you say you have no husband” and truth – “indeed, you have had five husbands and the one you are with now is not your husband.” He showed mercy to us by dying for our sins and tells the truth that “no one gets to the Father but through Him.”

Jesus also brings us to a place where we fear the Lord and are able to finally depart from evil. Before we had the fear of the Lord, we ran towards sin, but now have the ability and the power to depart from it.

Have you accepted Jesus or are you still in your sins? Trust in His mercy and truth!

Thanks for forgiveness of my sins!
