Psalm 27:13-14

Psalm 27:13-14

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Psalm 27:13-14

David opens this psalm in complete confidence in the Lord, acknowledging that He is David’s light, salvation, and the very strength of his life, and therefore there is no one of whom to be afraid. David recounts the battles through which the Lord delivered him (Psalm 27:2-7), his obedience to the Lord (Psalm 27:8), and his adversity with those around him (Psalm 27:9-12)

Today’s verses close out the psalm with David acknowledging that he would not have had hope without his faith and trust in God’s goodness, and his emphatic advice to generations of readers is to wait on the Lord. By waiting on the Lord, God will strengthen our hearts; the work is His not ours. Our part is to wait; His is to provide the strength. Now when we find ourselves in the midst of adversity, the hardest thing to do is wait for anything, yet we are told here to be courageous and wait. Faith isn’t always easy, but it is always fruitful, so the next time you encounter a trial in your life, remember to be of good courage and wait on the Lord.
