Psalm 49:20

Psalm 49:20

A man who is in honor, yet does not understand,

Is like the beasts that perish.

Psalm 49:20

This psalm contrasts those who put their trust in wealth and points out that their riches cannot redeem them and that their trust in their wealth is foolish. God promises the believer that their soul will be redeemed from the power of the grave (v15).

There are two verses in this Psalm that state even though a man has honor, he will still end up in the grave like a beast.  Today’s verse explains why: Because he does not understand the ways of God.  They boast in their riches or their moral living, but they do not realize that, “The redemption of their souls is costly.” (v8). Jesus is the only one who could pay the price for our souls, and it is by Him that God will redeem us from the grave.

Praise God that we have come to an understanding of His plan of salvation and pray for those whom you know who have yet to understand that they are powerless in terms of their redemption.
