Psalm 51:2-3

Psalm 51:2-3

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.

Psalm 51:2-3

How often do we make the mistake of thinking we have to be better to make up for our sins? We think we can earn forgiveness or righteousness by “doing the right thing,” whether it’s going to more church services, reading our Bibles, or whatever it is we think will cleanse us. Yet, if we are honest with ourselves, the results are always the same, we remain stained by our sin no matter how hard we try. Like David in the two verses above, we can cry out to God who offers to cleanse us from our sin.

God alone is the only one who can make us clean, which is why He went to the cross on our behalf. Hebrews 12:10 tells us, Our sins are washed away and we are made clean because Christ gave His own body as a gift to God. He did this once for all timeWe should stop trying to clean ourselves by our own strength, but run and cry out to the One who can make us clean and wash away our sins.
