2 Peter 1:21
For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:21
I was an atheist for about a decade before the Lord saved me in His mercy. I read the whole Bible as an atheist, figuring I was just reading a book written by man. And it was. However, according to the above verse, not just any men, but holy men moved by the Holy Spirit.
That’s what brought me to the Lord. As I read the Bible, it occurred to me that some things just couldn’t be written by men, not the authors I knew! For one thing, the Bible’s heroes aren’t very heroic. David, a man after God’s own heart, messed up with Bathsheba. Abraham, the father of righteousness, lied about his wife, Sarah, being his sister – twice! Peter denied Jesus, Moses misrepresented God, and the list goes on and on.
It is human nature to make yourself look good, and yet these authors, Moses, Peter, and Paul, were willing to show us their faults. Why? Because the Holy Spirit guided their words. We can trust God’s word!
