Matthew 27:19-20

Matthew 27:19-20

While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.” But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.

Matthew 27:19-20

As Pilate is distracted by this message from his wife, we are told that the chief priests and elders were going through the crowd “persuading the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.” But here sits Pilate, thinking that the crowd would choose Jesus and this would be his way out. He thought he had found a loophole that would save him from having to do what was right and release Jesus. But he would be wrong.

We have to make choices every day where we have to decide between right and wrong. Maybe not in matters as big as Pilate’s was here, but decisions nonetheless. And if we know what is right and wrong, it is far better for us to just choose to do what is right, no matter what the cost.

Don’t be looking for the loophole or the easy way out, just stop and do what you know is right no matter how hard it is. I bet Pilate wishes he could go back and do what was right; he would be much better off.
