Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

Psalm 46:1-3

The setting and background of this Psalm is highlighted in Psalms 42 and 43 which focused on the mindset and depression Hezekiah suffered, first in his health and then the brutal overwhelming siege of Jerusalem by the Assyrians that left this young king spiritually reeling and back on his heels. Yet Psalms 46-through-48 tell us the other side of the coin, Hezekiah’s much improved outlook as he turns back to the Lord with hope and faith, even though his faith had its share of shuddering in the process of holding on.

Our understanding of the Lord and His person is often most developed when we need Him to be all that He has told us He is. Look at our verses today: God is our refuge, our strength, and our help in trouble so we will not fear what comes our way. May the Lord remind you again today that in Him you can be immovable, solid, and standing strong.
