Proverbs 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 27:1
Many of us get caught in the trap of thinking that the things that we accomplish today will give us a secure tomorrow. This notion contradicts the teaching of Proverbs 27:1 because those who are preoccupied with their achievements fail to realize that they have no control over the future and that 24 hours can undo all of their plans.
James 4:13-17 speaks of the same thing. We read about the overly confident person who thinks that he can do whatever he desires. But he is found to be shortsighted because he assumes that he knows what tomorrow will bring. He doesn’t realize that “His life is like a vapor that appears for a short time and then vanishes away.”
How, then, should we live our days as the people of God? It’s better to say, “If the Lord wills, He will permit me to finish this project or accomplish this task.” Trusting our life to the only one who can see what tomorrow will bring. Work hard, serve the Lord well, and do what is good, then your today and tomorrow will accomplish much.
