Ephesians 4:1

Ephesians 4:1

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.
Ephesians 4:1

This is a turning point in the book of Ephesians. Up to this verse, Paul has written mainly about doctrine to the saints in Ephesus. He spent the first three chapters telling them what God has done for them. Here in chapter 4, he switches gears and begins to tell them about what they can do for God.

He uses the word therefore to signal to His readers that everything preceding this will inform His next statement. Which is that we should walk worthy of the calling which we were called. Or in other words, after all that God has done for us, we should now respond with living holy lives.

We don’t seek to be holy to earn anything from God, it has all been given to us already. We seek to live holy in response to all we have been given.

Answering the call,

Pastor David Reeves
