Proverbs 30:8-9

Proverbs 30:8-9

Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches — feed me with the food allotted to me; Lest I be full and deny You, and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God.

Proverbs 30:8-9

This is a great prayer from Agur.  He makes two requests for things on this side of eternity, the first being he wants to be a man of integrity, a man known for truth.  This should be our prayer; we should be men and women of faith marked by truth.  Those who speak to us should know that we have no reason to lie or to distort the truth.

The second request was to have neither wealth or poverty but to be satisfied with all that God has provided. Both of those can lead us down the path of profaning the name of God.  Having too much wealth will lead us down the path of denying the Lord, thinking that we do not need God.  Being poor will lead us down the path of using our poverty as an excuse to sin by stealing.  May we be men and women of integrity, completely satisfied in all that the Lord has provided us.
