Psalm 121:2

Psalm 121:2

My help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:2

In the above verse, the psalmist is answering his own question from verse one, where he asks, “From where comes my help?”  Seemingly he has reached the point where he has exhausted all his own efforts and resources and he is now looking outside of himself when he says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills,” affirming that his help comes from the Creator and Author of life.

The Psalm goes on to describe the faithfulness of God to keep us:  He will keep us on firm footing and be ever watchful (Psalm 121:3-4). He will keep us from evil and preserve our soul (Psalm 121:7), and He will keep track of us forever (Psalm 121:8). We serve a loving, all-powerful God. He is big enough to create all that we see, which is beyond measure, and yet He is loving enough to care for each of us on a personal level. Lord, thank you for your ever-present watchfulness, and for the overwhelming love that you have for each of us.

Serving a loving, all-powerful God,

Pastor Jeff Mericle
